Disney World is a magical place for families (and adults) to bond and have an amazing break from the norm.
A Disney World trip for adults (especially empty nesters) can be a magical idea! There is a unique blend of nostalgia, entertainment, relaxation, and bonding opportunities that appeal to a wide range of interests and tastes.
Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, is one of the most traveled-to destinations in the United States!
The guests that are visiting aren’t always with a family. We empty nesters love it too!
The first trip my husband and I took together without the kids was to Disney World! We had been going for years as a family and just wanted to take an anniversary trip with only us.
Unexpectedly, we found that it was a totally different experience as adults without having to plan for family activities.
Our trip was less stressful and we could do and see whatever we wanted!
We have been back many times since then as adults and absolutely love it.
It’s also a great experience visiting with our adult children who have now discovered the magic of an adult Disney trip. The whole dynamic has changed.

Adults will love the nostalgic charm of the park, as well as a variety of fun rides.
It is the most crowded park in our experience lately so we usually save this one for last.

Soarin’ Around the World – [Epcot]
This simulated hang-gliding experience takes you on a breathtaking journey over some of the world’s most iconic landmarks and natural wonders.
It is a must-do for us! I love the scents in the new edition of the ride that correspond to the movie!

This high-speed roller coaster takes you on a thrilling adventure through the Himalayas. You’ll even see the infamous Yeti! It is complete with hairpin turns and a backward plunge.
Tip: Ride this at sunset for an amazing view!
Enchanted Tiki Room – [Magic Kingdom]
This is my must-do because it is my favorite! When we went on family trips everyone would roll their eyes when I wanted to do this. Now I can see the show as many times as I want!
I love the birds singing and the whole tropical feel (and air conditioning)! I even designed my patio at home to resemble parts of this tiki paradise.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – [Epcot]
This newer coaster is a thrilling and smooth indoor coaster. You are on a mission to save the galaxy, with some cool music and twists and turns along the way.
We ride this several times during every trip!
It is what a coaster should be and has great music!
Tip: With just 2 adults it is worth it to purchase a lightning lane for this ride so you can ride it more than once without a wait!
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror – [Hollywood Studios]
This drop ride takes you on a spooky experience through the haunted Hollywood Tower Hotel. The adventure culminates in a thrilling drop sequence that will leave you screaming.
The theming on this ride is great and the cast members stay in character which adds to the experience!
Test Track – [Epcot]
This high-speed ride allows you to design and test your own virtual concept car. It then takes you on a thrilling test track that reaches speeds of up to 65 mph.
Avatar Flight of Passage – [Animal Kingdom]
This immersive ride takes you on a voyage through the world of Pandora.
It is complete with breathtaking visuals and a thrilling flight on the back of a Banshee.
It really feels like you are sitting on a Banshee (it kind of feels like it is breathing) on this ride!
Rock’ n’ Roller Coaster – [Hollywood Studios]
This high-speed roller coaster takes you on an exhilarating ride through the streets of Los Angeles in a “stretch limo”.
It is complete with loops and inversions set to the music of Aerosmith.
Our first must-do of the trip usually!
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – [Hollywood Studios]
This unique experience immerses you in the Star Wars Universe. You are sent on a thrilling multi-part mission and battle with the First Order.
My husband loves this ride more than I do. He insists it is the ultimate Star Wars experience so I’m on board with recommending it.
Pirates of the Caribbean – [Magic Kingdom]
This classic boat ride takes you on a journey through a pirate’s life. It is complete with swashbuckling adventure and plenty of hijinks.
It’s an iconic and nostalgic ride for us because our boys had to do it on every trip numerous times and now we just go for the memories.

This safari ride takes you on an outing through the African savanna. It allows you to see exotic animals such as elephants, lions, and giraffes in replications of their natural habitats.

Choza de Margarita – Epcot
As you enter the World Showcase’s Mexico Pavilion, you will see this popular margarita stand, which offers a variety of signature and frozen margaritas, as well as beer and tasty snacks like tacos and empanadas.
Baseline Tap House – Hollywood Studios
This craft beer bar is a great spot to grab a drink and relax during your day at the park.
The menu features an array of local and regional beers, as well as a few tasty snacks like Bavarian pretzels and charcuterie plates.
Nomad Lounge – Animal Kingdom
This tranquil lounge is a gem in the heart of Animal Kingdom.
It is one of our favorites and you can grab a table outside on the porch area to get drinks and small bites.
The menu features an array of unique cocktails, such as the Hightower Rocks (a tequila-based cocktail with watermelon) and the Lamu Libation (a rum-based cocktail with guava puree).
Oga’s Cantina – Hollywood Studios
This place is a ‘local watering hole’ located in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. It is one of my husband’s favorites.
My only hesitation is that you are usually (not always) standing for the experience. So, it may be better for drinks than bites even though we do get a snack too.
Try out some of its themed galactic beverages, which they have available with or without alcohol.
There is also beer and wine on tap and a couple of snack options.
Rose & Crown Pub – Epcot
Over at the United Kingdom Pavilion, you can stop into an authentically-themed British pub.
They serve up signature cocktails, wine, pub blends by the pint, and a selection of flights to sample.
The restaurant here is one of our faves too!
The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge – Hollywood Studios
This stylish lounge is located outside the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant and features a menu of classic cocktails.
Try a Hollywood Manhattan or an Old Fashioned while snacking on one of the lounge’s charcuterie boards.

The menu features creative dishes from around the world, and the ambiance is upscale and refined.
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant – Hollywood Studios
Feel a wave of nostalgia at this restaurant, which has a fun and unique setting.
Guests sit in vintage cars and watch classic sci-fi movie clips while enjoying American dishes like burgers, sandwiches, and sundaes.
This was a must-do on family trips and we continue the tradition with just adults when we have a chance!
Jungle Navigation Co. Skipper Canteen – Magic Kingdom
This is a fun table-service restaurant in Adventureland, themed after the Jungle Cruise attraction.
It offers a unique menu inspired by the flavors of Asia, South America, and Africa. The food is served by servers dressed as Jungle Cruise riverboat pilots.
Chefs de France – Epcot
This elegant French restaurant in the France Pavilion offers classic French cuisine with a modern twist.
The menu includes dishes like escargots, an iconic ratatouille, and tasty crème brûlée.
Adults will love the relaxing break you get eating here. It’s nice to look out over the park passers-by while you sip French wine.
Liberty Tree Tavern – Magic Kingdom
This is a colonial-style restaurant located in Liberty Square, and it serves traditional American comfort food.
Order dishes such as salad, roast turkey, pot roast, pork, plant-based meatloaf, and dessert options served in an all-you-care-to-enjoy style.
It’s a great choice for a hearty meal in a cozy and quirky setting perfect for adults.
Yak & Yeti Restaurant – Animal Kingdom
This Asian-inspired restaurant not far from Expedition Everest is known for its delicious food and Nepalese-style decor.
Guests can dine in a beautifully decorated dining room or on the outdoor patio with views of the park.
This is another one that was a family favorite that we have continued into our adult trips.
We love the food there and can usually fill up with a couple of shared appetizers and cocktails.
Be Our Guest Restaurant – Magic Kingdom
This is a highly popular restaurant located inside the Beast’s castle in Fantasyland [Magic Kingdom].
We had our anniversary lunch here and always make a point to book it for lunch on our adult trips.
I like it better for lunch or breakfast than dinner, but the theming is amazing.
Spice Road Table – Epcot
This Mediterranean-inspired restaurant in the Morocco Pavilion offers a selection of small plates and entrees. They also have a variety of cocktails and wines.
It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy the magical views of the World Showcase lagoon.
Disney Springs is on our list even when the rest of Disney Parks aren’t
Disney Springs is an amazing (and one of the free Orlando activities!) area that we visit on adult trips!
We make time to go here even when we are visiting Universal Studios or other Orlando attractions in the area.
There are so many great options for cocktails and food here. In addition, there is also bowling, live music, and movies and we just love it.
The shopping is also great with some nice big name stores such as, Zara, Tommy Bahama, and Uniqlo.
Disney offers specialty festivals throughout the year that is perfect for adult trips!
Throughout the year, Disney World hosts numerous special events and festivals. Some examples are Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival or the International Flower & Garden Festival, which offer unique experiences for adults to enjoy.
Another magical festival that is perfect for adult trips is Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts. It is full of amazing artists and food!
It focuses on the creation of art and cuisine with different presentations.
A couple of artists that I used to work with present during this festival and absolutely love the experience.

Absolutely! There are various ways for adults to relax and unwind.

A Disney World trip allows adults to escape the stresses and responsibilities of daily life and indulge in a world of fantasy, imagination, and adventure.
There are countless opportunities for adults to bond and create lasting memories together.
It’s not just empty nesters and couples! Huge groups of friends or family can meet up here from across the world!
Visiting Disney World can inspire creativity, curiosity, and a sense of wonder, which can lead to personal growth and development for adults.
It is also great exercise!
I know this sounds hokey, but it has been our experience that the ‘not in the real world’ part of this is what makes it a perfect break from the norm.
I get that Disney is a “created” or simulated bubble, but that is the point!
