When you’re in Key West, experiencing a sunset cruise is something you shouldn’t miss. Key West is famous for its breathtaking southernmost sunsets and we book a sunset boat tour every trip! They are absolutely magical. There’s a variety of unforgettable options to see the sun dip below the horizon from the water and if you’re lucky you’ll experience the infamous green flash (we haven’t yet).
Whether you’re planning to book a romantic schooner sail, a lively catamaran party cruise with music, or a floating tiki bar experience for your group only, these are the best Key West sunset tours in our honest opinion and they all make for the perfect evening on the water.

How We Chose These Key West Sunset Boat Tours
On our frequent Key West trips, we almost always book at least one sunset boat experience (usually multiple) because seeing the sunset from the water feels completely different than watching it from Mallory Square or a hotel deck. Some cruises are lively and social, while others feel quieter, romantic, or more private. We love them all!
For this guide, we included the sunset boat tours we would actually consider booking again based on the overall experience, views, boat style, atmosphere, value, and how memorable the evening felt. Some are better for couples, some are better for groups, and some are just plain fun if you want something unique.
1. Key West Schooner Sunset Sail

The schooner sunset sail feels like the most classic Key West option to us. It’s quieter and more romantic than some of the larger party-style cruises, and there’s something special about watching the huge sails catch the evening light as the sun drops lower over the water. We liked that it felt intimate without being overly formal, and the drinks and appetizers made it feel like a complete evening instead of just a boat ride.
- Average Price Range: $90-$120 per person
- Description: Sail aboard a traditional schooner and immerse yourself in a historic sailing experience complete with complimentary beverages. We loved the appetizers and bottomless champagne on our cruise.
- Why we love it: A timeless, romantic option that feels classic Key West without being overly formal.
- Good to Know: This is usually a more relaxed vibe and seating is kind of all over the deck wherever you can find.

2. Catamaran Sunset Cruise with Music and Food

The catamaran cruise is one of the easiest sunset tours to recommend because it has a little bit of everything: room to move around, big open-water views, cocktails, snacks, and great live music. This one felt more upbeat than the schooner but still scenic enough to feel like a true sunset experience. We especially loved the live music and unlimited appetizers, which made it feel like a floating happy hour with a sunset backdrop. We’ve done this particular one 4 times and will book it again!
- Average Price Range: $80-$100 per person
- Description: Relax aboard a spacious catamaran and enjoy live music, cocktails, and appetizers while taking in panoramic views of the sunset.
- Why we love it: A favorite among groups and couples. This tour is perfect for stunning views and a lively vibe. The one-man band on the cruise we took with them was awesome! We loved the unlimited appetizers too (especially the shrimp).
- Good to know: Catamarans can feel more social, so this is a great choice if you want energy and atmosphere rather than a quiet sail. It’s also easy to get up and move around.

3. Floating Tiki Bar Key West Sunset Tour

The tiki boat tour is one of our favorite Key West sunset experiences because it feels so different from the larger cruises. It’s smaller, casual, and just fun in a very Key West way. We love that it’s BYOB because you can bring exactly what you want (we brought champagne and mini M&M’s), and it’s a great choice when you’re traveling with a small group. It also makes for some of the best photos because the whole boat has that floating tiki bar look. We have booked this on every trip!
- Price Range: $60-$100 per person, but the private group option is the best at around 457$, when you divide by the 6 that will fit on the boat!
- Description: A unique, intimate tiki-themed boat tour featuring tropical drinks, music, and a fun island vibe. It’s BYOB and snacks. We usually bring prosecco and mini M & M’s (fancy, I know!)
- Why we love it: One of the most fun and quirky ways to enjoy the sunset. Reserve this unique boat tour for unforgettable photos.
- Good to know: Bring your own drinks and snacks, and don’t overpack. Space is limited, so we usually keep it simple with prosecco/champagne, water, and a few easy snacks. There’s an ice chest to put things in onboard.

⚓️You may have read about unsafe Key West tiki boat tours, but these are Not those! They are actual boats and the ride is great to see amazing sunsets!

4. Dolphin & Snorkel Sailing Sunset Cruise

This is a good choice if you want your sunset cruise to feel more active. It’s less of a “sit back with a drink and watch the sky change” experience and more of a mini Key West adventure that ends with sunset. We like this option for when we have limited time and want to combine a few experiences into one booking.
- Price Range: $70-$80 per person
- Description: This type of tour combines more of a daytime adventure with a sunset finish, so it’s a great option if you want to do more than simply cruise around at golden hour. Depending on the tour, you may get time for snorkeling, dolphin spotting, sailing, and then sunset views on the way back.
- Why we love it: Ideal for seeing it all! You get the amazing sunset views and dolphin sightings on the same tour.
- Good to know: Because snorkeling and dolphin watching are weather- and wildlife-dependent, go in with a flexible mindset. The sunset is the reliable part; dolphins and water clarity can vary.

5. Glass Bottom Boat Sunset Cruise

The glass-bottom boat sunset cruise is a nice option when you want something easy, scenic, and family-friendly. We liked that it offered two experiences in one: marine life viewing and sunset views. When the water is clear, it’s really fun to look down and spot fish, coral, and other sea life before the sunset portion of the trip.
- Why we love it: A glass-bottom sunset tour in Key West that is family-friendly and combines marine exploration with golden-hour beauty.
- Average Price Range: $59-$80 per person
- Description: Enjoy Key West’s marine life through a glass-bottom boat as the sun sets, offering a unique underwater viewing experience. We saw several species of fish as well as a turtle swimming by on ours! It’s great when the water clarity is clear!
- Good to know: Water clarity matters a lot for this one. If the water is stirred up or cloudy, the glass-bottom portion may not be as impressive, but the sunset cruise itself can still be beautiful.

6. Sunset Dinner Cruise

A sunset dinner cruise is a good fit when you want the evening planned for you. Instead of trying to time dinner reservations around sunset, you get the meal and the view together. We thought the food was pretty good, but the real reason to book this one is the overall experience of dining on the water while Key West glows at golden hour.
- Average Price Range: $90-$120 per person
- Description: Enjoy a unique onboard dinner as you cruise past Key West’s famous landmarks during sunset.
- Why we love it: A top pick for foodies. Book a Key West sunset dinner cruise for romantic views and great food! We thought the food was pretty good and would do it again just for the experience.
- Good to know: I’d book this more for the atmosphere than as a fine-dining experience. Think of it as a scenic dinner cruise with Key West views, not a restaurant replacement.

7. Sunset Party Cruise

The sunset party cruise is the one to choose when you want a fun, social night on the water. It’s more about the energy, music, drinks, and group atmosphere than a quiet romantic sunset. We had a great time with our group, and it’s a good option if your Key West trip already has that celebratory feel.
- Average Price Range: $80-$90 per person
- Description: Dance, drink, eat, and enjoy music aboard a lively party boat, creating an upbeat sunset celebration.
- Why we love it: It’s a great option if you’re searching for a fun Key West sunset party cruise with live music and drinks. It was a fun time for our whole group and we all had a great time.
- Good to know: This probably isn’t the best pick if you’re hoping for a peaceful sunset sail. Choose the schooner or private sail instead if you want something quieter.

8. Private Sunset Sail

A private sunset sail feels special because the experience is just for your group. Even though the total price looks higher at first, it can make sense when you divide it between several people. We loved having the boat to ourselves because it made the evening feel more personal, relaxed, and memorable.
- Average Price Range: $400-$500 per group (this may seem pricey, but if everyone puts in it is the same or less than the per person charge large group sail!)
- Description: Charter your private boat and enjoy an exclusive sunset experience tailored just for you and your guests.
- Why we love it: It’s perfect for proposals, birthdays, groups, and special occasions. We loved having the boat all to our group and it was a truly unforgettable evening.
- Good to know: Private sails are usually best booked early, especially during busy travel dates. If you have a specific sunset night in mind, don’t wait too long.

Our Favorite Key West Sunset Boat Tour Overall
This is honestly hard to choose because each sunset boat tour has a different vibe. If it’s your first trip to Key West and you want the most classic experience, I’d probably choose a schooner sunset sail. If you want the most fun and easygoing option with music, drinks, and snacks, I’d choose the catamaran sunset cruise. If you’re traveling with a small group and want something more unique, the tiki boat tour is hard to beat.
For our own trips, we usually try to book more than one because a schooner sail, catamaran cruise, and tiki boat tour all feel completely different. Those three are tied for our favorites though. That’s part of what makes Key West such a fun sunset destination.
What to Know Before Booking a Key West Sunset Cruise
A few quick tips can make your sunset cruise experience even better:
Book earlier than you think you need to, especially if you’re visiting from December through April or around holidays. Sunset tours are one of the most popular things to do in Key West, and the smaller boats can fill up quickly.
Check what’s included before booking. Some tours include drinks, appetizers, dinner, or live music, while others are BYOB. That can make a big difference in both the price and the overall experience.
Don’t forget wind. Even when Key West is warm, it can feel breezy on the water after sunset. I usually bring a light layer, especially in winter.
Arrive early. Parking and walking around the marina area can take longer than expected, and boats usually do not wait for late arrivals.
FAQs about Key West Sunset Cruises
Book at least a week in advance, especially during peak travel season from December to April, to ensure availability for top-rated tours. We usually book really early on our must-do tours just in case.
Yes, many tours accommodate families and offer activities suitable for all ages, especially the glass-bottom boat and catamaran tours. The tiki boat tours are adults-only.
Dress comfortably in casual attire and bring a light jacket in January or February for the cooler evening breeze. It’s windy even in warm weather.

Final Thoughts on the Best Key West Sunset Cruises:
A Key West sunset cruise is one of those experiences we keep booking because it never feels exactly the same twice. Some nights are calm and golden, some are breezy and colorful, and sometimes you even find yourself hoping for that famous green flash (one day we’ll see it).
The best tour really depends on your travel style and what your group wants. Choose a schooner if you want classic and romantic, a catamaran if you want music and a lively atmosphere, a tiki boat if you want something fun and different, or a private sail if you’re celebrating something special. We usually choose at least 2 on a trip and sometimes more! It really is the best way to experience that Key West sunset magic!🌅
