New Orleans has many great hotels to choose from when visiting, but which ones do locals love? As a local and frequent visitor staying in many hotels in downtown New Orleans regularly, there are some that stand out in a good way. We wanted to do this New Orleans hotel review on The Saint Hotel from Marriott’s Autograph collection because we love staying here and it has been consistent in quality for us each time.

The Saint Hotel Review:
The Saint is a boutique hotel located on Canal Street in New Orleans. The former office and retail building was transformed into The Saint Hotel in 2010 and is still one of our favorites. It is very close to The Saenger Theatre, so we stay here frequently when attending shows there. We recently stayed here for a Bob Dylan concert (it was amazing!) and were able to experience most of the amenities (except the fitness center).
Also, if you are wondering if this hotel is close to the French Quarter, it is! It is a great place to stay and there’s only a short walk to either a streetcar stop (right in front), Bourbon Street, the Riverfront, or many activities.

1. Check-in and Valet Parking
Our experience at The Saint Hotel on arrival started the trip off well. We pulled up to the entrance and were able to get valet parking just outside the door on Canal St. The cost was $45.00 per 24 hours. We did not have any trouble or a long wait for our car when we wanted to leave and we texted for the car about 10 minutes before we went down.
Check-in is located in the center of the lobby. The high ceilings and unique decor of The Saint Hotel make the lobby area seem large. The front desk agents were attentive and our room was ready early (11:00 a.m.). We were given information on free breakfast for Marriott Platinum guests in the former Tempt dining area at the front of the hotel lobby facing Canal St.
2. The Room Experience at The Saint Hotel
The room experience is bright and comfortable. We stayed in a regular King room, but the apartment-sized suites look incredible. There is a “Lucifer-themed” and “Michael-themed” suite that we will hopefully get to stay in on a future visit.
The bright decor continues into the bathroom area with beautiful chandeliers and marble. A unique “climbing man” sculpture above the toilet adds a quirky touch.
The room also had a K-cup coffee machine, large flatscreen T.V., ample desk space if you are on a “working” vacation.
Signature Saint Hotel branded bath products and spa bathrobes are included for use and feels posh. The “climbing man” is so unexpected and unique that I also bought one for home, although I didn’t put it in the bathroom.

3. Hotel Dining
Sadly, one of my favorite places to eat before a show, Tempt, is no longer open, but The Saint has kept the area and offers breakfast in the space in the mornings. There are unique booths and tables set to one side of the lobby.
Room service is offered as well as really tasty small plates in Burgundy Bar. The duck empanadas are one of our favorites as well as the crawfish dip.
Right next door is the Ritz Carlton New Orleans and there is a fantastic weekend brunch there so it is easy to venture on over if you want other options. There are also many restaurants really close to the hotel that are walkable.

4. Burgundy Bar
We love to visit The Burgundy Bar before a show and have small plates and drinks! The rich, deep red lighting and lush decor brings the unique vibe throughout. There is bar seating (with purse hangers!) and velvet larger seating areas across from the bar area. We didn’t catch live music last time, but they sometimes have live performances on the stage in front area of the lounge.
As you can tell, this is one of our favorite lounges to visit when we are in the area! We even included it in our recent DIY cocktail crawl article because it is nice to experience even if you are not staying at the hotel. The only downside is that it is only open Thursdays to Sundays 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm. so if you visit on other days during the week it will be closed.

We did not get a chance to try the fitness center, but it is open 24 hours and 7 days a week.
They also have nice meeting and event/wedding space. It will accommodate small weddings (up to 45 guests) or meetings with 2600 sf of event area and meeting rooms.
6. Final hotel review thoughts
Our final verdict on our review of the Saint Hotel (Marriott Autograph Collection) is that is one of our favorites! We will return again next time we attend a show at the Saenger Theatre next month. Many people who visit get overwhelmed with all of the options for accommodations in the French Quarter area, so hopefully this helps narrow down the choices.
The Saint Hotel also has one other location in Key West on Duval St. It is a smaller version (33 rooms), but just as unique and fun! We have been there many times and will be there soon so will try to review that one too. Until then, you can check out our new post on what to do in Key West in one day.
