Marriott Moxy South Beach Hotel Review
The South Beach neighborhood of Miami always has a vibrant, energetic vibe and is one of our favorite places to visit. The Art Deco architecture is also amazing. We had a fun stay at the Moxy Hotel in South Beach recently and wanted to review our experience to help you decide on where to stay if you are planning on visiting the Miami Beach area.

Hotel Location –
Although the Moxy South Beach is not on Ocean Drive, it’s a short walk to the beach and Atlantic Ocean from the hotel. It is located 915 Washington Avenue in the heart of the Art Deco Historical District near many restaurants, cafes, and cocktail bars.
Some places worth visiting close to the hotel include The Wilzig Erotic Art Museum, The Wolfsonian (see our South Beach Guide), Shepherd Artisan Coffee, and the 11th Street Diner.
The Whimsical “Vibe” and Unique Feel of the Moxy South Beach Common Spaces
From the moment you enter the Moxy South Beach you are immersed in a vibrant and whimsical atmosphere. There are unique wall murals and a retro “horroscope” machine near the tiled walk-up restaurant window of Tiendita.
It also boasts many colorful and quirky seating areas as well as elevators with an interior that gives the impression of being at the bottom of a swimming pool. The elevator interiors even have a simulated water ceiling.
The trendy vibe extends to the rooftop lounge and pool areas too.
Moxy South Beach Check-in Experience–
When we arrived at the hotel it was around 11:00 a.m. The friendly front desk assistant let us know that our rooms were ready so we were happy to be able to get settled before exploring the neighborhood around the hotel.
The front desk is not huge, but the staff were efficient in handling the small line of guests waiting to check-in. We were given a card good for a free drink at the lobby bar (we chose a mimosa) as well as 2 coupons for chips and salsa that could be redeemed at Tiendita or Serena during our stay (we redeemed them all).
There were also bikes that could be checked out for guest use and we were informed about how to take advantage of the beach chairs at the Moxy hut on the beach.
The Lounge Areas and Pools at Moxy South Beach–
The lounge areas in the lobby are comfortable and vibrant. There are several seating areas to relax and grab a drink from the lobby bar or just sit and have a Cuban coffee and a snack from Tiendita. The seating on the rooftop lounge is colorful and offers abundant seating areas. There is also a nice view of the Atlantic Ocean from the rooftop.
The lounging pool on the rooftop is small and next to a small bar. It was not heated when we were there so we didn’t really go in it other than taking pictures next to it. The lighting at night is really nice. They also show movies on a round screen at the rooftop lounge area.
The main pool is heated and has many lounge chairs around that were available. We had a great time swimming past the porthole (see our video) window and looking at those in the lobby below from it.
Moxy South Beach Unique Pool Porthole Feature –
This was definitely a unique feature and it is fun to watch from the lobby or to swim by above in the pool. Our group took turns swimming by and having other members of our group take video and pics from below in the lobby. I know it sounds silly, but it was fun! Watch our YouTube video of the porthole lobby view from the Moxy.
I’m sure that it could be a different experience if the pool was more crowded that day, but we really had fun with almost no crowds.
The Moxy Room Experience–
The trendy decor of the Moxy extends into the rooms too. We loved the look and feel of the rooms (not sure about the porthole window from the shower into the room). The rainfall showerhead was really nice as well.
This hotel has many positives and the King rooms that we had may have been the only slight disappointment. Other than the unique hanging rack on the wall near the entrance of the room there is no closet for storage. There was also no desk or work area (besides a bed tray/desk) so the room felt a little tight for us.
Onsite Dining and Cocktail Bars at Moxy South Beach-
Moxy South Beach has many dining options onsite. Some options include Serena (Mexican), Como Como (seafood), Mezcalista, and Tienita in the lobby area.
There is a lobby bar (Bar Moxy) with really friendly bartenders making great craft cocktails. The rooftop pool has a small bar area (The Upside) and music. A popup craft cocktail bar at Mezcalista that was popular.
We tried the bar at Serena, the rooftop lounge, Lobby bar, and breakfast at Tiendita. We loved them all and will make sure to try the others and have a meal at Serena next time.
Would we stay again at Moxy Miami South Beach?
Of course we would stay again at the Moxy South Beach! The location is fantastic, the dining and bar options were great, and the quirky vibe of the hotel made the stay more fun. The smallish rooms were really not an issue and wouldn’t affect us staying there again.
What We Didn’t Love–
The previously mentioned room size and lack of storage were really the only negatives for us. However, they were definitely not deal-breakers. If we were staying longer I would get a room with 2 queens just to have a little more space.
