The best and not very well-kept secret is the party after New Orleans Jazz Fest that happens throughout many streets in the neighborhood surrounding the pedestrian gates on Fortin Avenue in Mid City. There are many amazing people grilling and selling food, drinks, and art to those leaving the festival. The best part is the many bands and parties that form a multi block-party atmosphere. This goes on for several hours after the close of the festival every night and it is really one of the best things that some may never know about if they leave through the Gentilly gates or via the shuttles. Mid City is (in my humble opinion) the best neighborhood of New Orleans and the laid back fun is just part of the appeal of this area.
The party doesn’t stop at the end of Jazzfest. It continues throughout the neighborhood surrounding the pedestrian gate exit on Fortin st. up to Esplanade Avenue. There’s music, street food for sale, dancing, and fun that goes on until many hours after the gates close. Visitors who exit at Gentilly and go on their way would never know about this amazing after-party!
