It’s easy to explore, safe, full of history, and still feels a little fairytale-like around almost every corner. I’ve visited as a solo traveler, with a friend group, and on a couple’s trip. It’s a perfect city for any trip!

What are the best things to see and do in Prague on your next trip?
Prague has many historical landmarks and must-see places like Charles Bridge, the famous Astronomical Clock, and Prague Castle, but there is also amazing nightlife and cuisine.
It’s one of our favorite European cities to visit and we try to plan a trip every chance we get, even if it’s just for a long weekend!
Is Prague worth visiting?
Yes, Prague is absolutely worth visiting, especially if you love historic cities, walkable neighborhoods, castle views, old-world architecture, cozy cafés, and beautiful river scenery. It has the grand European landmarks on many bucket-lists, but it also has smaller moments that make a trip feel special, like wandering quiet side streets, finding a tucked-away cocktail bar, or catching the Charles Bridge before the crowds arrive.
Prague is also a great destination if you love culture, architecture, historic buildings, and art, because so much of the city feels like an open-air museum. Even simple walks through Old Town, Lesser Town, or across Charles Bridge give you a mix of Gothic towers, Baroque churches, colorful street art, and beautiful river views.
We love Prague because it feels easy to enjoy, even on a shorter trip. You can see a lot in a weekend, but it also has enough museums, viewpoints, food stops, activities, and neighborhoods to fill several days.

How Many Days Do You Need in Prague?
You can see Prague’s biggest highlights in 2 to 3 days, but 3 full days feels much better if you want time for Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, Petřín Hill, a river cruise, a few unique museums, and some slower food or cocktail stops.
For a first visit, we’d suggest this 3-day sample itinerary:
Day 1: Old Town Square, Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, Klementinum, and a river cruise
Day 2: Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane, the vineyards, Petřín Hill, and the Lennon Wall
Day 3: Underground tunnels, Museum of Alchemists and Magicians, Church of St. James, Hemingway Bar, Food Lab, and Perníčkův sen Bakery
Unique Things to do in Prague:
There are endless things to do in Prague that will make you want to come back and experience more of this amazing city. Also, most things are walkable so it is easy to get around.
Visit the Charles Bridge at Sunrise
The Charles Bridge is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Prague. However, it is a must-visit! It is usually really crowded during the day. So, to experience the bridge at its best, visit it at sunrise. The views of the river and the city at sunrise are breathtaking. This is one of the best places in Prague to appreciate the city’s historic buildings, architecture, and art all at once, from the statues lining the bridge to the castle views in the distance.
You can also enjoy watching the sun rising over the silhouette of Prague Castle in the background. It is a unique experience that you will never forget! When you visit, also make sure to explore some of the unique statues along the bridge. 30 unique sculptures were created in the 17th and 18th centuries.
At the other end of the bridge make sure to visit Cafe Marnice! They have great food and you can sit outside along the little Venice-like river watching the small boats roam by. Despite some less than great reviews we have visited many times and always loved the food! You can also take a small boat tour on the Venice-like river near Charles Bridge!
Climb to the top of the Petřín Lookout Tower (or take the Funicular)
Petřín Lookout Tower is one of the most popular attractions in Prague, located on the top of Petřín Hill. It is a 63.5-meter-tall tower built in 1891, inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
You can get to the tower by climbing Petřín Hill (or taking the Funicular) and then either walking up 299 steps or taking an elevator up to the 2nd level (you have to walk the last steps to the top tower).
Climbing up the stairs can be a bit tiring, but it is worth it for the beautiful views. From the top, you will be 55 meters high and on a clear day, you can see all the way to the Bohemian Forest and Krkonoše Mountains. We think it is the best view of the whole city!
At Petřín Hill, there is more to explore than just the observation deck. You can also check out the Mirror Maze, the Rose Garden, the Hunger Wall, and planetarium. It’s really family-friendly and there are so many things to explore on the hill!
I had my first Trdelník (with nutella) here and it was amazing! (sadly, they didn’t have it at the snack bar last time we visited Prague)

Leave a Message at the John Lennon Wall
The John Lennon Wall is one of the top unusual attractions in Prague, symbolizing peace, rebellion, and freedom. it is located near the Charles Bridge and a short walk from Petrin Hill.
The wall is full of colorful graffiti and words like peace, love, and hope. People started writing on it in the 1980s because they wanted freedom. People come from all over the world to see this special wall.
After John Lennon died, students in the Czech Republic painted a picture of him and wrote his song lyrics on a wall.
The authorities tried to get rid of it, but it was always put back up. Now, the wall stands for peace and freedom. You can write your own messages or draw pictures on the wall. Even if you do not like The Beatles, the wall is full of art and has a message of peace.
Bring something to write with and make your own mark on the wall. It’s fun and a great photo op! We love the way it changes every time you visit because of the constant evolution of the art and signatures!
Also, make sure to visit the John Lennon Pub just down the street from the wall. We loved the ambiance and sandwiches!
Take a Boat Tour on the Vltava River
Enjoying a Vltava River cruise boat tour is one of the best ways to experience Prague sightseeing from a new perspective.
The river flows through the heart of the city, offering stunning views of its historic landmarks and breathtaking architecture.
A typical boat tour lasts about an hour, and will take you past some of Prague’s most iconic sites, including the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and the Old Town. Along the way, you can sit back, relax, and take in the beautiful sights while listening to commentary from the tour guide.
Some Prague tours offer dinner cruises, or wine, where you can also enjoy dinner and drinks while taking in the beautiful views of the city at night. Other tours offer live music or entertainment, making for a truly unforgettable experience. We try to do one on each visit!
Roam Prague Castle and Vineyards
Prague Castle is one of the most iconic landmarks in the Czech Republic! According to the official Prague Castle website it is the largest coherent castle complex in the world, covering almost 70,000 square meters.
Built-in 870 AD, this stunning castle complex sits atop a hill overlooking the city. It dates back to the 9th Century and has been the seat of power for Czech rulers throughout history.
The complex features a variety of architectural styles, including Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance. It also contains a number of notable landmarks, including St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, and the Golden Lane. It’s a stunning example of medieval architecture and has been the home of Czech kings and presidents for centuries.
Prague Castle is also one of the best places to experience the city’s layered culture and architecture because the complex brings together Gothic, Baroque, Renaissance, and medieval details in one walkable area.

Visit the Infamous Prague Astronomical Clock (the Orloj)
Prague Astronomical Clock is special because of its age, history, intricate design, astronomical function, and cultural significance. You can see it at the Old Town Square in Prague, mounted on the southern wall of the Old Town Hall.
The clock dates back to 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still in operation.
It is composed of three main components – the astronomical dial, the calendar dial, and the mechanical figures.
The astronomical dial represents the position of celestial bodies, including the sun, the moon, and the stars, as well as zodiac signs and various other astronomical details This amazing piece not only tells the time but also provides information on the movements of celestial bodies. It shows the time in three different formats: Central European Time, Old Czech Time, and Babylonian Time.
Every hour, between 9 am and 11 pm, the clock puts on a mechanical show called the “Walk of the Apostles.“
The mechanical figures, which include the 12 apostles, come to life and parade past two windows above the astronomical dial.
See Underground Tunnels in Prague
Prague is an old and historic city with a lot of history. It has tunnels that were used long ago for carrying things and hiding during multiple wars. Now, these tunnels are interesting to visit, and you can explore them to see some of the hidden parts of Prague.
The Prague Old Town Underground tour is an interesting must-do! People used it as a market and storage area in the 12th century.
Today, you can still see old coins, pottery and other artifacts there today. The tunnels underneath Prague are special and can show you the city’s lengthy history in a unique way. They are also a great way to get away from all the people and explore a hidden part of Prague.
If you like learning about history or want to have an unexpected adventure, exploring these tunnels is something you should try!
Museum of Alchemists and Magicians of Old Prague (and bar)

The Museum of Alchemists and Magicians of Old Prague, along with its amazing bar and restaurant, Kellyxir, offers an intriguing and unique experience that transports visitors back to the mysterious world of alchemy and magic in medieval Prague.
The museum is housed in a historic building with a medieval ambiance, which adds to the overall experience. The dimly lit rooms, combined with the intriguing and quirky exhibits, transport visitors back in time to when alchemists and magicians pursued their arcane crafts in secrecy.
Okay, it is a little kitchy but we loved it and the alchemy-themed frothing and smoking cocktails at the bar are worth the experience!

The bar’s unique design features elements such as potion bottles, antique furniture, and mystical symbols, which complement the museum’s atmosphere.

Explore Klementinum Library
Klementinum Library, one of the most beautiful libraries in the world, is a must-visit on your Prague itinerary for history and book lovers. This stunning Baroque library is located inside the Klementinum, a historic complex of buildings that also houses the National Library of the Czech Republic.
The library was opened in 1722. The inside of the library is decorated with paintings and plasterwork. There are over 20,000 books inside the library, including rare copies and old papers.
Take a tour of the library during your visit! You will get to see the Baroque hall, Meridian hall, and the astronomical tower. During the tour, you can learn about the library’s history and its role in Czech scholarship and astronomy. Plus, you will be able to enjoy its beautiful architecture and lots of books!
The Klementinum Library is amazing for anyone who loves books, history, and beautiful buildings. You will be amazed by the paintings on the walls, the fancy stucco work, and the many books in this library. It is one of the most beautiful libraries in all the world. This is a perfect stop for if you love art, architecture, and historic buildings, because the Baroque details, frescoes, library hall, and Astronomical Tower make the whole complex feel special.

Discover the Church of St. James
The Church of St. James is a breathtaking church located in the heart of Prague’s Old Town at Konvent minoritů v Praze, Malá Štupartská 6, 110 00 Praha 1
With its striking Baroque façade and ornate interior, the church is a testament to the city’s rich history and cultural heritage. The church dates back to the 13th century and has undergone several renovations over the years.
Its stunning interior features various Baroque artwork, including frescoes, statues, and paintings by famous Czech artists such as Baroque artist Petr Brandl.
One of the most unique features of the Basilica of St. James is its famous mummified hand.
According to legend, the hand belongs to a thief who attempted to steal jewels from the church’s altar. The hand is said to have been cut off by an angel and remains displayed in a glass case near the altar.
You can also go to the Church of St. James to attend mass or just explore. It is open all day, and some tours tell people more about its history and why it is special. If you like history, art, or need a peaceful place to relax in Prague, the Church of St. James is a great place to go. You don’t want to miss it!

The natural and trendy ambiance is welcoming and we love the “gardens” on the ceilings and walls. The food is amazing! It is a contemporary take on European cuisine, combining traditional flavors with innovative techniques and presentation.
If you don’t have time for a full meal make sure tos top by for a coffee and delicious pastry or pie!

This amazing bakery is just down from Food Lab and it is a must-stop if you have time.
